Image numbering defines the naming conventions used for output images. Two image numbering schemes are provided with the application:

  • Julian Date Prefix. Image file names start with the sequential day number within the year.

  • Sequential Numbering. Image file names are eight characters, either an eight-digit number or a fixed user defined prefix followed by a sequential number.

The System Numbering option must be selected in the capture profile's Output - Images tab.

  1. From the Settings menu, click Image Numbering. The Image Numbering Settings window is displayed.
  2. In the File Name Length field, enter the maximum number of characters for the CAPTUREit output file's name. Eight is the maximum allowable characters by default but the field can be set to accept up to 255 characters. This feature is only available if the System Numbering radio button is enabled in the capture profile's Output - Image tab.
  3. To use the Julian Date Prefix image numbering scheme, complete the following fields:
    • Default Prefix To Julian Date. Click this check box to start the image numbers with the three-digit day of the year (001 to 365).

    • Starting Sequential Number. Enter up to five digits that will set the starting number for system assigned image numbers. The system assigns image numbers starting with the Julian date followed by five digits that start with the number entered in this field. This field is only available if the Default Prefix To Julian Date check box is enabled.

  4. To use the Sequential Number image numbering scheme, complete the following fields:
    • Prefix. Enter any alphanumeric characters.

    • Last Sequence Used. The number entered here is used when the System Assigned image numbering option on the profile's Output-Images tab is selected. For more information, see Images Output Options.

Unless Default Prefix to Julian Date is selected, the next image file name assigned is the next sequential number. For example, since if the Last Sequence Used is 00000000, the next image file name is 00000001.tif.

    Note:

The combined number of characters entered in the Prefix and Last Sequence Used fields must be equal to or less than the number entered in the File Name Length field. If this field displays Invalid Prefix then the length exceeds the parameters set in the File Name Length Field or zero or blank was entered in the File Name Length field.

  5. Click OK.
