Field-level recognition settings affect the extraction steps. You can use them to read the field again after the best candidate has been selected. By this time, the format and the geometry of the field is well known. Therefore, the OCR quality can be improved significantly by using a different OCR engine or by imposing certain restrictions through classifiers. To modify the field-level recognition settings, complete the following steps.

  1. Switch to Definition Mode.
  2. In the left pane, on the Fields tab, select a field.
  3. In the right pane, select the Field tab.
  4. If the current field is a derived field, and you do not want to inherit the OCR settings of the parent class, clear Use derived OCR settings.
This enables the remaining OCR parameters.
  5. Optional. To activate OCR optimization, select Read field again.
  6. Optional. Click the OCR settings button and then, in the Field OCR Settings Properties dialog box, modify the settings and then click OK.
  7. Optional. To activate the digit booster, select Boost field.
  8. To check the results of field boosting, see About the Field-Level Digit Booster Candidate Evaluation.
