To modify the validation settings for a field, complete the following steps.
- Switch to Definition Mode.
- In the left pane, on the Fields tab, select a field.
- In the right pane, on the Validation tab, under Force Validation, select Default, Permitted, or Forbidden. For more information, see Force Validation Settings.
- Optional. From the Available Templates list, select a template and then click Copy.

Optional. If the field belongs to a subclass, select
Use Derived Validation.
Note: This makes all other settings unmodifiable.
- Optional. To make the field always valid regardless of its content or validation settings, select Always valid.
- Optional. Select Allow delayed validation.
- From the Validation Type list, select a type.

Complete one of the following substeps.
- For a text field, Modify the General Validation Rules for a Text Field and Modify the Character Filtering Settings.
- For an amount field, Modify the General Validation Rules for an Amount Field, Modify the Character Filtering Settings, and Modify the Output Formatting Settings for a Date or an Amount Field.
- For a date field, Modify the General Validation Rules for a Date Field, Modify the Character Filtering Settings, and Modify the Output Formatting Settings for a Date or an Amount Field.
- For a check box field, Modify the General Validation Rules for a Check Box Field and Modify the Character Filtering Settings.
- For a list field, Modify the General Validation Rules for a List Field and Modify the Character Filtering Settings.
