The OnBase Application Server requires a database connection and Disk Group access. Allowing open access to this server from untrusted sources like the public Internet is not advised. A reverse proxy can securely expose certain traffic to the Application Server when needed. The reverse proxy takes incoming friendly or public URLs and rewrites them into back-end URLs that can be recognized by the Application Server. This chapter provides guidelines on configuring IIS as a reverse proxy and configuring URL rewrite rules.

Note:

These guidelines are not intended as a complete reference for configuring a reverse proxy with URL rewrite. See Microsoft documentation for details on installing and configuring these IIS components.

The latest supported versions of the following applications are prerequisites for configuring IIS as a reverse proxy. These components should be installed on the server that will act as the reverse proxy:

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)

  • Microsoft IIS Application Request Routing

  • Microsoft IIS URL Rewrite Module
