Lowercase alphanumeric characters should be included in the bar code value, but are converted to uppercase characters when the bar code is scanned.

Lowercase alphanumeric characters are only supported by Extended 3 of 9 bar codes in the Bar Code Generator. If standard 3 of 9 bar codes are used, lowercase alphanumeric characters are converted to uppercase characters so they can be included in the Keyword Value represented by the bar code.

Special characters (i.e., .~'!@#$%^&*) should be included in the bar code value but are not read when the bar code is scanned.

Special characters are not supported by standard 3 of 9 bar codes. In order to include these characters in your bar code value, you must configure the Bar Code Generator to create Extended Code 3 of 9 bar codes.

Tip:

For a list of all characters supported by standard 3 of 9 and extended 3 of 9 bar codes, see http://www.idautomation.com/code39faq.html.
