By default, OnBase attempts to process every Code 39 bar code as an Extended Code 39 bar code, regardless of if you are using Kofax hardware/software, Fujitsu PaperStream IP hardware/software, or the Hyland Bar Code Recognition software.

If your solution requires it, you can configure the processing workstation to process all Code 39 bar codes using a Standard Code 39 bar code process. This change is made at the workstation level; other workstations can still be configured to process Code 39 bar codes using an Extended Code 39 bar code process.

  1. From the processing workstation, browse to the folder containing the onbase32.ini file.
  2. Open the onbase32.ini file in a text editor, such as Notepad.
  3. Locate the TranslateExtended setting. It is located in the [Pegasus] section.
The TranslateExtended setting controls how OnBase processes Code 39 bar codes. By default, it is set to 1 (TranslateExtended="1"). This forces OnBase to process every Code 39 bar code using an Extended Code 39 bar code process.
  4. Set the TranslateExtended setting to 0(TranslateExtended="0"). This forces OnBase to process all Code 39 bar codes using Standard Code 39 bar code processing.
  5. Save and close the onbase32.ini file. All instances of the OnBase Client running on the workstation will need to be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.

If you are performing bar code processing with Kofax hardware or software, be aware that there is a setting in the kofax.ini file (BarAlgorithm) that specifies how Kofax will process Code 39 bar codes (using Standard or Extended Code 39 bar code processing). However, the onbase32.ini file's TranslateExtended setting will override the kofax.ini file's BarAlgorithm setting.
