This setting is used to determine how many raster lines of cushioning to allow when scanning for bar codes. If text falls within the specified number of raster lines immediately above or below a bar code, then the text is considered to be potentially part of the bar code.

By default, the ScanDistance setting is set to 3. Setting this to a greater value will help to ensure that the bar code is considered valid.
