Once a scan format has been created, a batch of documents must be brought into the scan queue.

Batches of documents may be transitioned to the Awaiting Bar Code Processing queue so that centralized Bar Code Processing can be performed on the documents within the batch.

Some notes about performing batch bar code processing via the Bar Code Recognition Server:

  • Depending on your scan queue configuration, scanned batches may or may not be routed to the Awaiting Bar Code Processing queue. See your system administrator for more information.

  • While the method or type of scanning driver that was used to create the batch to be processed does not matter, be aware that the processing workstation performing the bar code processing in the OnBase Client must have the Hyland Bar Code Recognition software or Kofax hardware or software installed.

If both Kofax hardware/software and the Hyland Bar Code Recognition software are installed on the processing workstation, preference is given to the Hyland Bar Code Recognition software.

  • When a page is deleted from a document (for example, when blank pages are deleted during bar code processing), any notes attached to that page are also deleted from the document.

  • If you are indexing documents using separate bar code sheets and you are sweeping or scanning batches from disk, be aware of the file names used by the documents and the bar code sheets. By default, OnBase sweeps/scans from disk the file with the shortest file name into the system first, and then proceeds alphabetically/numerically (your solution may be configured to scan files in a different order; for more information, contact your solution provider).

If you are not cognizant of your file names, documents may be indexed incorrectly (that is, the wrong bar code sheet may be imported before a document) or they may not be indexed at all (that is, the document is imported before the bar code sheet, so no indexing values are applied).

All batches residing in the Awaiting Bar Code Processing batch status queue are displayed in the Working window.

Depending on your system configuration, batches residing in the Awaiting Bar Code Processing batch status queue may be automatically processed, or, to manually begin processing the batch:

  1. Select the batch to be processed from the Working window.
  2. Right-click and select Perform Bar Code Processing.
    Note:

If a user belongs to a User Group with the Document Imaging Administrative Processing Privilege Product Right, he/she can select the Skip Bar Code Processing right-click option to route the batch to the next configured batch status queue without having it undergo batch bar code processing.

Once processing is initiated, no further user intervention is required. A status bar is displayed to show the progress of the Bar Code Process.

When the processing is complete, the batch proceeds to the next configured batch status queue.

    Note:

If you are performing bar code processing within Document Imaging for the Unity Client, Fujitsu PaperStream IP hardware/software may be used as an alternative to the Hyland Bar Code Recognition software or the Kofax hardware/software. Also, batches residing in the Awaiting Bar Code Processing queue are processed automatically via the Data Capture Server Windows Service. For more information on performing bar code processing in the Unity Client, see the Document Imaging module reference guide.
