A character set in an Oracle database determines what languages can be represented in the database. The character set specified in the NLS_LANG environment parameter on client machines should be the same as the set specified for the database, and it should be compatible with the operating system locale chosen for the client and server. The correct character set will ensure the proper conversion from the client system to the database.
For the majority of OnBase customers, the System Locale is American_America, and the WE8MSWIN1252 Oracle character set is the appropriate choice for an ANSI OnBase implementation in the United States.
The table below lists the recommended Oracle character sets for the supported OnBase languages. Please contact your solution provider to confirm support for a specific character set not listed below. This table applies only to ANSI implementations for all OnBase versions.

For Unicode OnBase implementations, the only supported Character Set is AL32UTF8. The recommended National Character Set is AL16UTF16. The AL32UTF8 Character Set is not supported with ANSI OnBase implementations, and can result in data integrity issues if used. Unicode support for Oracle implementations of OnBase was first made available with OnBase version 15 SP1. For more information on Unicode functionality, see Unicode Support or the Unicode Considerations module reference guide for your version of OnBase.
