The Auto Shrink option causes SQL Server to shrink the database files, thus removing free space. This process can occur every 30 minutes, creating overhead on the server and possibly affecting database performance. Additionally, shrinking files can create fragmentation within the database, subsequently creating performance issues because of additional I/O. The OnBase database is a repository for information, and the database files experience growth on a regular basis. Shrinking the files is redundant; they will simply grow again when more data is added to the system.
