It is recommended that you have separate, dedicated storage for the backup system regardless of the storage media (SAN, tape, attached magnetic device, etc.). Hyland Software, Inc. recommends RAID 5 configuration for hardware fault tolerance. Hyland Software, Inc. also recommends keeping between one week and one month's worth of backups available, based on storage capabilities and recovery requirements.

CAUTION:

It is strongly recommended that you store all database backup files in a different location than the production database. If the database backup is stored in the same location as the production database, the entire database will be lost in the event of a hardware failure. Additionally, it is recommended that you restore a copy of the database on a regular basis to validate the integrity of the backup.
