When the Diagnostics Service is running on a server, it can write messages occurring on that server to the Diagnostics Console, which may be running on a remote workstation. If the Diagnostics Service is running independently of the Diagnostics Console, it can be configured to write messages to a log file in a specified location. The Diagnostics Console can also run without the Diagnostics Service to log messages occurring on the local workstation. To start the Diagnostics Console:

  1. Select Start | All Programs | Hyland | Diagnostics | Diagnostics Console.

    If this option is not available, then navigate to the location of the Diagnostics Console executable.

    • On 32-bit systems, the executable's default location is C:\Program Files\Hyland\Diagnostics Console.

    • On 64-bit systems, the executable's default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Hyland\Diagnostics Console.

      Tip:

      Create a shortcut to the Diagnostics Console on your desktop. A shortcut not only provides quick access to the Diagnostics Console; it also lets you open saved logs by dragging and dropping the log files onto the shortcut's icon. To create a shortcut, right-click DiagnosticsConsole.exe and select Send To | Desktop (create shortcut).

  2. Double-click DiagnosticsConsole.exe. The Redirect Server dialog box is displayed.
  3. Enter the URL of the server you are monitoring into the ServerUrl field. By default the local host is included in this field. If you are monitoring a local server, you do not need to change this. To monitor a remote server, enter the URL of that server.
  4. Click OK.
  5. If you are attempting to monitor a remote server and the service is not running on that specified server, you are prompted to start the service. Click Yes.
    If the service cannot be started remotely, you must start the service interactively on the server you want to monitor.
  6. The Diagnostics Console is displayed. Available logs vary depending on how the Diagnostics Console is configured. For a description of each log, see the Description of Diagnostics Console Logs.
