To configure a default certificate for an individual user:

From the Configuration module, navigate to Users | User Names / Passwords.
The User Names & Passwords dialog box is displayed.
- Select the user for which you would like to assign a default certificate.

Click the Signature button.
The Signature Configuration dialog box is displayed.

If the Enable Certificate-based Signatures for this user option is not already selected, select it.
Once the Enable Certificate-based Signatures for this user option is selected, the Enable process based signing option is available.
- Select the Enable process based signing option.

Click the Configure button.
The Select Certificate dialog box is displayed.

Click the drop-down list and choose from where you would like to select a default certificate for the user:

Local Machine- Displays any available certificates stored on the Client workstation (displayed by default).

Application Server- Displays any available certificates stored on the Application Server.
Note:This drop-down is not available if you have not configured the Application Server. For more information on configuring the Application Server, see the Application Server documentation.

Select the certificate you would like to assign to the user.
Certificates denoted by two asterisks (**) in the second column are from the Local Machine certificate store. These certificates can be used by any user.Certificates without the two asterisks in the second column are from the Current User certificate store. These are personal certificates and can only be used by the current Windows account user.Note:
When configuring a process-based certificate for multiple users in your organization, it is best to use a Local Machine certificate (**) from the Application Server drop-down list option. If you use a personal certificate from the Local Machine drop-down list option, that certificate needs to be copied to each user's personal certificate store on the Application Server.
- Click the Select button. An asterisk (*) is displayed in the first column to denote this is the default certificate.
- Click the Exit button.
- From the Signature Configuration dialog box, click the Save button to assign the user the certificate you selected.
