Secure package files (.hssp) can contain multiple documents. A recipient of a secure package must use the Secure Package Verification Utility to view and extract the documents from the package. The Secure Package Verification Utility is also used to determine whether the package documents have been altered. If one or more documents within a secure package have been altered or tampered with since being added to the package, the Secure Package Verification Utility is unable to display or extract any of the documents, since the integrity of the package as a whole has been compromised.

To verify and extract the documents contained within one or more secure package files:

  1. Launch the Secure Package Verification Utility.
  2. Click the Browse button. The Windows Open dialog box is displayed.
  3. Navigate to and select the appropriate .hssp file(s).
  4. Click Open.
If the contents of a package have been tampered with (for example, a file has been renamed or modified, or a directory has been changed), a warning is displayed, and the process cannot be completed.
If the documents contained within a package are valid and have not been tampered with, they are listed in the Contents field. On the right side of the list, you are notified whether a signature (certificate) is present for each document.
    Note:

Depending on system configuration, the Auto-Name strings of the documents may be displayed.

To view digital certificate information for a document, click the triangle to the left of the document. You can then double-click the certificate to view more information on it.
  5. To extract the documents contained within the secure package, do one of the following:
    • To extract all documents, click the Extract button.

    • To extract only one of the documents, double-click the document in the Contents list.

The Windows Browse For Folder dialog box is displayed.

  6. Navigate to the folder you would like the documents extracted to and click OK. You are notified when document extraction has finished.
  7. Click OK. The documents are now available for viewing in the folder you specified.
