The -configmode switch can be applied to the target path of shortcut to a Distributed Services executable to run the application in Server Configuration Mode. While in this mode you can install and uninstall the server as a service, start and stop the service, reset the encryption key, set command-line parameters, and check the status of the server.

To start a Distributed Service in Server Configuration Mode:

  1. Right-click on the shortcut of the application and in the target path append the -configmode switch. Click Apply, and then click OK.
  2. Double click on the shortcut.
    Note:

    The Distributed Disk Services Server must be started as an administrator under Windows User Account Control in order to install or uninstall DDS as a service. To launch an application as an administrator, right click the shortcut with the switches applied and select Run as Administrator. If the Distributed Services are not run with administrative permissions, the Install Service, Uninstall Service, Start Service, and Stop Service buttons are all disabled.

  3. The Server Configuration Mode dialogue box is displayed.
