In this scenario, the network administrator does not want to open UNC sharing across LANs. Using Distributed Disk Services, the network administrator would allow communication through a specific port.
Note:
DDS requires unrestricted bidirectional network access for User Datagram Protocol (UDP) and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) between the client and server on the specified port.
This scenario is useful for installations of the OnBase Web Server. The Web Server can be installed in its own secure LAN, separate from the corporate LAN, where document data is stored. The Web Server would be able to access the document data through a specified port through a firewall, therefore restricting UNC access outside the LAN.
