The Document Import Processor imports documents and their associated indexing information into OnBase, eliminating the need to manually index documents. The process can also be used to automatically add OnBase Notes to documents during the import process, without any user intervention.

The Document Import Processor is typically used for back file conversion, or processing of images captured by other vendors' capture systems such as OCR for Forms ™, Eyes & Hands FORMS, and TELEform ™.

Throughout this manual, the OnBase Document Import Processor module is referred to by the acronym DIP. “ DIP ” is also used to refer to the process.

During a DIP process, the processor opens an Import Index File and reads it according to the OnBase process configuration. The system processes each record in the file, evaluates its Document Type and obtains available Keyword Values. When a new page in the document is identified, these Index values (the Document Type and Keyword Values) are evaluated. If the Document Type and Keyword Values match the previous page, Implied Continuation occurs and the page is appended to the previous page's document.

The system then copies the file to be imported into a Disk Group and processes the next record. After all import files have been processed, the system generates a verification report, which details errors or problems that may have occurred during processing.

Advanced DIP can also be configured. For high-volume imports, a multi-threaded Advanced DIP license is available to provide a quicker process. See Overview of Advanced Processing for information on this module.
