To install the EDM Briefcase manually:

  1. Copy the following files from your distribution media to your OnBase directory:
    • EDMBriefcase.exe- available in \apps\EDMBriefcase

    • dmlocale.dll- available in \bin

  2. Paste them in a directory on the workstation. For example, C:\Program Files\Hyland\EDM Briefcase (32-bit operating systems) or C:\Program Files(x86)\Hyland\EDM Briefcase (64-bit operating systems).
  3. Open a command prompt to execute the following:
    <Briefcase installation path>\EDMBriefcase.exe /regserver
  4. Close the command prompt.
  5. Determine the location of the EDM Briefcase's index.xml file and default location for the user's documents. For example, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Hyland Software\EDM Briefcase. Ensure that the location(s) exist and the user has sufficient permissions to read and write to the location(s).
  6. Open the Registry Editor.
    CAUTION:

Modify the registry at your own risk. Incorrectly editing the Windows registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Be sure to back up the registry before making any changes to it. For more registry information, see the following Microsoft articles: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256986 and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725612.aspx

  7. Under 32-bit operating systems, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hyland\Briefcase.

Under 64-bit operating systems, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Hyland\Briefcase.

    Note:

As an alternative under 64-bit operating systems, if the registry editor is launched from C:\Windows\SysWOW64, the standard registry keys can be updated.

  8. Right-click on the Briefcase folder and select New | String Value.
  9. Name the string DataFileLocation. Type the path to where the index.xml file will be located.
  10. Create another String Value and name it DataPath. Type the path to where the default user data file location will be located.
  11. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER | Software and ensure there are sufficient rights to permit users to create and modify Registry Keys by right-clicking and selecting Permissions.
