Encrypted Alpha Keywords can be masked when shown to OnBase users without sufficient rights to view the keyword. When a security mask is configured, a portion of the Keyword Type value, or the entire value, is hidden by the configured mask.
For example, a Keyword Type used to store Social Security Numbers can be configured to display the * character for all but the last four digits of the Social Security Number value. However, users with the Access Security Masked Keywords privilege are still able to view the Keyword without the security mask, and modify the encrypted Keyword value.
Users without the Access Security Masked Keywords privilege cannot view the encrypted Keyword value without the security mask, or modify the Keyword value.
If the encrypted Keyword Type is not configured to use a security mask, users can view and modify encrypted Keyword values, regardless of whether they have the Access Security Masked Keywords privilege.
Encrypted Keyword Types can also be configured to display with a security mask when they appear in text documents in OnBase.
