By default, the Hyland Express Scanning Listener Service is configured to start automatically and run as the Local System service account.

Note:

These settings can be changed from the Windows Computer Management window by right-clicking on the Hyland Express Scanning Listener Service and selecting Properties.

When Express Scanning is launched as a service, it first checks the master and local configuration files for an EXPRESSSERVICE parent element. The EXPRESSSERVICE parent element is exactly the same as the EXPRESSSCANNING parent element of the configuration file; it just allows you to specify one configuration for workstations that are running Express Scanning as a service and a separate configuration for workstations that are running the Express Scanning client.

To run Express Scanning as a service:

  1. From the Express Scanning workstation, right-click on the Express Scanning shortcut on the workstation's desktop and click Properties.
    The Properties dialog box is displayed.
  2. Add the -INSTALL command line switch to the Target field.
  3. Click Apply and then click OK.
    The Properties dialog box is closed.
  4. Double-click the Express Scanning shortcut to launch the Hyland Express Scanning Listener Service.
  5. To confirm that the Hyland Express Scanning Listener Service is running, do the following:
    1. From Windows, click Start.
    2. Right-click on My Computer and select Manage. The Computer Management window is displayed.
    3. In the left pane of the Computer Management window, expand the Services and Applications branch and select Services.
    4. In the right pane of the Computer Management window, ensure that the Hyland Express Scanning Listener Service is listed.
