The ScanSoft Recognition Engine could not be initialized! Please verify that the necessary files for version <Version Number> of the engine have been installed and are in the correct locations.

This message is displayed if there are files missing from the Windows system folder.

To determine which files are missing, browse out to the OCR folder (by default, located at C:\Program Files \Hyland\OCR) and run the DISTR_TST.exe file. You are then notified of which files are missing.

Often, these missing files are located on the workstation and just need to be copied to the System folder. If they are not present on the workstation, they can be copied to it from another workstation without issue.

Continue to run the DISTR_TST.exe and copy the missing files to the System folder until the DISTR_TST.exe file informs you that no files are missing, and then re-run your OCR process.
