The PDF Image Only format is a scanned, non-searchable image of a document that is saved using the PDF file format and can be viewed using a PDF viewer. To convert PDF Image Only documents to searchable PDFs, sweep them into a scan queue, assign them to a Document Type configured to use an OCR Format with the PDF (Image with Searchable Text) output format and have the batch undergo OCR processing.
Because both the image-only PDF document and the searchable PDF document have a PDF file format, the searchable PDF document cannot be saved as a rendition of the image-only PDF (the image-only PDF is replaced by the searchable PDF document; the image-only PDF document is deleted from OnBase). However, if the Document Type is configured to be revisionable, then the searchable PDF document is saved as the latest revision of the original, image-only PDF document.
In order to configure Document Types to be revisionable, additional licensing is required. See the EDM Services module reference guide or help files for more information.
