Full-Text Search results should not be assumed to be exhaustive of all possible results. For example, Full-Text Search can only return a default of 250 results at a time. If there are more than 250 potential results, the additional results are not displayed.
The client may return fewer than the maximum configured results to the user due to security and metadata filtering.
When performing a search usingFull-Text Search, you should assume the possibility that not all results are being shown. To alleviate this issue, several additional steps can be taken, including:
-
Avoid using only aFull-Text Search to find documents. Instead use searches combined with keywords and date ranges to be as specific as possible.
-
For date ranges, limit the dates of the search to a smaller range and conduct multiple searches using subsequent periods. For example, instead of using all of 2020 as a date range, break your searches into months or weeks to ensure you are getting the best results.
-
The configuration keys fullTextUnFilteredResultMax and fullTextServerMaxResults may be increased to increase the number of results returned. Doing so may impact query performance when raised above default values.
