Overview

The HL7 Back-end Job Processor Unity Scheduler task performs processing on jobs created by the HL7 Listener, including:

  • Updating Keyword values in related AutoFill Keyword Sets using reverse keyset lookup

  • Propagating patient information on charts

  • Adding documents created through the Advanced Document Import process to Workflow

  • Creating documents from Merge Items

  • Updating documents with updated or merged AutoFill Keyword Sets

To create the HL7 Back-end Job Processor task:

  1. Select HL7 Back-end Job Processor from the drop-down list when prompted to select the type of task you want to create.
Note: It is a best practice that the HL7 Back-end Job Processor be in it's own task group.
  2. Click Next. The next page of the wizard is displayed, allowing you to determine if you want to set multiple services to execute concurrently. This option must be selected if you are configuring the task for use with horizonal scaling. See Configuring Multiple HL7 Back-end Job Processor Tasks. Select the Allow Multiple Services to Execute Concurrently check box, and configure the following setup options:
    • Port. Type a port to use for the service. This port must be the same for both services being configured for horizontal scaling.
    • Certificate Thumbprint. If you are using secured connections, enter the certificate thumbprint. This certificate must be the same for both services being configured for horizonal scaling.
    • Allow Insecure Connections. Select this check box to allow insecure connections.
  3. Click Next. The next page of the wizard is displayed, allow you to assign User Groups to this task.
  4. Select a User Group from the User Groups drop-down list and click the Add button to give users from that group access to the task.
  5. When all necessary User Groups have been added, click Next. The next page is used to schedule the task.
  6. Click the Add button and select Interval. The Interval Schedule dialog box is displayed.
  7. Enter 1 in the Execute every field and select Minutes from the drop-down list. This will configure the back-end job processor to run every minute, ensuring that all processing jobs are immediately accounted for. The task will continue to run until no new jobs remain and no new jobs are found for at least one minute. After that minute, the task will shut down and until the scheduled restart time.
  8. Click OK to close the Interval Schedule dialog box and return to the wizard, then click Next.
  9. The next page of the wizard allows you to configure off-times during which the scheduled task will not run. It is recommended to select The interval schedules should always execute for this task.
  10. Click Next. The next page allows you to set a time at which the task will begin to run and a time at which it will run for the last time. For the HL7 Back-end Job Processor, neither should need to be set.
  11. Click Next. The summary of the created task is displayed. Review it for accuracy, then click Finish.
After an HL7 Back-end Job Processor task has been created, subsequent tasks follow the Allow Multiple Services to Execute Concurrently setting.
If the initial task was configured with Allow Multiple Services to Execute Concurrently enabled, for subsequent BEP tasks, the wizard automatically checks/enables the setting and the checkbox is greyed out/disabled, so it cannot be changed. A message appears which states: A task already exists with this setting enabled; subsequent tasks must also have this setting enabled.
If the initial task was configured with Allow Multiple Services to Execute Concurrently disabled, for subsequent BEP tasks, the wizard automatically unchecks/disables the setting and the checkbox is greyed out/disabled, so it cannot be changed. A message appears which states: A task already exists with this setting disabled; subsequent tasks must also have this setting disabled.
Note: If the Allow Multiple Services to Execute Concurrently setting is disabled and multiple services are configured, only one task will execute at a time. See Configuring Multiple HL7 Back-end Job Processor Tasks for more information.
