The HL7 Auto-Sender is activated by the -HL7AUTOSEND command line switch, which must be entered in the Target path on a shortcut to the Client. Like the HL7 Listener, the Auto-Sender must be used on a standalone workstation, although it can be used on the same workstation where the HL7 Listener is running.

Run the OnBase Client module with the -HL7AUTOSEND switch to start the automated sending of HL7 messages. While running, the HL7 Auto-Sender displays its status in the HL7 Message Sender window within the OnBase Client.

The HL7 Sender scales multiple Auto-Sender services to send to separate Export Destinations. For this, the Destination # is needed for various Export Destinations. This is found in OnBase Configuration > Medical > HL7 > Export Destinations. You can select each destination to view the Destination #.

-HL7DEST switch can be used with the -HL7AUTOSEND switch. The syntax is: -HL7DEST=<hl7destnum>,<hl7destnum> Example: -HL7DEST=101,102

Note: Double-quotes are also permitted (For example: -HL7DEST="101,102")

If no -HL7DEST switch is present, the Auto-Sender continues to send messages to all Export Destinations.

Note: Only one Auto-Sender at a time can send messages per Export Destination. This is managed through Lease Locks. The Auto-Sender acquires a Lease Lock for each Export Destination configured (or all Export Destinations if none are specified). To specify the Export Destinations that an Auto-Sender will process, the -HL7DEST switch must be used. If the switch is not used, the Auto-Sender will attempt to process messages for all Export Destinations.

If an Export Destination has had a backlog in the past, or is more time-sensitive than other feeds, the export destination may benefit from having its own dedicated Auto-Sender service. However, any other Auto-Sender services for that OnBase solution must also use the -HL7DEST switch to specify Export Destinations, otherwise they might acquire the Lease Lock for an Export Destination specified on another Auto-Sender and process those messages along with all other feeds.
