Import processes control how incoming HL7 messages are handled in OnBase. For example, import processes can use HL7 message data to create new documents, E-Forms, AutoFill Keyword Sets, folders, Front Office Scanning datasets, and medical records charts.

You can create multiple import processes to run against the same HL7 Message Type. For example, you can use an ADT^A01 message to create both E-Forms and Front Office Scanning Datasets. Configure one import process to create E-Forms and another import process to create Front Office Scanning Datasets. You can configure a separate ADT^A01 message template for each process, or assign the same template to both processes.

You can configure import processes to process only messages that meet specified criteria. For example, configure an import process to process incoming ADT^A01 messages from a particular hospital only, and create Front Office Scanning Datasets.

Because a system can contain many import processes for one Message Type, there are several ways to filter processing using the import process or the message template itself. You can also make an import process inactive by disabling it. The following procedures describe how to configure import processes, how to filter messages from a Sending Application or Sending Facility, and how to disable an existing import process.
