To use the Allergy Processor, make sure the following chart data fields are mapped1 to HL7 message template fields:

Required Chart Data Field

Description

MPI Number

The Master Patient Index for an existing patient in OnBase.

Allergy - Allergy1

The code that uniquely identifies a specific allergy.

Allergy - Drug Detail

The description of the specified allergy. If your solution displays patient allergy information in the OnBase Patient Window, the allergy description is the value displayed in the banner.

In a typical message, the allergy information segment should present the allergy code and its description using this format:

AL1|1|DA| V14.0 ^ PENICILLIN |...

In this case, the Allergy - Allergy1 chart data field would be mapped to AL1.3.1, which contains the code V14.0. The Allergy - Drug Detail chart data field would be mapped to AL1.3.2, which contains the description PENICILLIN.

Additional allergy-related chart data fields are available to track other information, including the allergy type, severity, and a description of the patient's allergic reaction.

Note:

Certain chart data fields must be mapped to HL7 messages at the field or component level; they cannot be mapped to subcomponents. For allergy information, these fields are Allergy - Allergy1, Allergy - Severity, Allergy - Probability, Allergy - Reaction Code, Allergy - Type, Allergy - Route Code, Allergy - Drug Type, Allergy - Info Source Code, and Allergy - Indicator.

1 Chart data fields can be mapped to HL7 fields using either Chart Data Fields Configuration or HL7 Message Template Configuration.
