Each individual appointment—including each child appointment—must have its own unique appointment ID. Appointments that share an appointment ID must be distinguishable by the assigning authority for the appointment ID.

Recurring appointments may use a parent-child relationship as defined in the HL7 standard. The Appointment Processor can store information for parent and child appointments, but it does not preserve the parent-child relationship between appointments. For example, updates to a parent appointment will not be propagated to the child appointments. Each individual appointment—including each child appointment—must be created, updated, or canceled individually.

For more information about parent and child appointments, refer to the HL7 standard specification.
