For a Dual Signature deficiency to be created, the secondary signer's ID must be specified in the Physician ID field. When a secondary signer is specified, the Dual Signature deficiency is assigned to the secondary signer and the attending physician.

For Dual Signature and Dual Missing Dictation deficiencies to be completed, the transcription must have a status of completed, and the physician ID specified in the Sign Phys ID field or in the Physician ID field must belong to a physician, not a secondary signer. Under these conditions, the process will complete dual deficiencies that either have been signed by the secondary signer or have not been signed at all.

If the Sign Phys ID field specifies a secondary signer's ID, the matching dual deficiency's status is set to Signed by Resident. Non-dual deficiencies are unaffected, because this process does not allow secondary signers to sign non-dual (single) deficiencies.

For a complete overview of how this process creates and completes deficiencies, see Flowchart: External Transcription and Deficiency Processing.
