Confidentiality codes can restrict access to patient information that is considered sensitive or taboo, such as a malignancy that should be discussed with a patient only by the physician assigned to the patient's case.

Confidentiality codes are respected in the OnBase Patient Window by default; the Medical Records Unity Client must be configured to respect them. For information about using confidentiality codes with the Patient Window or Medical Records Unity Client, see the Patient Window or Medical Records Unity Client module reference guide.

Administrators can manually assign confidentiality codes to a specific document, chart, or an entire patient record using HL7, Patient Window, or Medical Records Unity Client.
