Chart-optional Document Types can contain both chart documents and clinical patient documents. When a document is imported into a chart-optional Document Type, the following events take place:

  1. OnBase checks the Keyword Type mapped to the Chart ID # chart data field.
  2. If the Chart ID # Keyword Type does not have a value, the document will not be attached to a chart. Instead, the document is considered a clinical patient document, and OnBase attempts to attach the document to a patient record using the MPI and MRN keyword values.
  3. If the Chart ID # Keyword Type has a value, OnBase uses the Chart ID # and MPI chart data fields to find a matching chart.

    • If a single matching chart is found, OnBase attaches the document to the chart.

    • If a single matching chart is not found, OnBase sends the document to Chartless Documents.
