The chart data fields for patient identifiers must be configured to use assigning authorities in order for overlapping values to be used. Only assign an assigning authority Keyword Type to these fields if your system should allow the same identifier to be used for different records.

The chart data fields MPI Number(ID #1), Medical Record #(ID #7), and Chart ID #(ID #10) can have assigning authorities specified and validated.

To configure assigning authorities for chart data fields:

  1. Select Medical | Charts | Data Fields.
  2. Select one of the following chart data fields:

    • MPI Number(ID #1)

    • Medical Record #(ID #7)

    • Chart ID #(ID #10)

  3. Click Settings. The Chart Data Field Settings dialog box is displayed.
  4. In the Assigning Authority section, use the Keyword Type drop-down list to select the Keyword Type to map as the assigning authority. You are prompted to validate that the assigning authority keyword.
  5. Click Yes to run the validator. Medical records Document Types, AutoFill Keyword Sets, message templates, and other configuration items are checked for compliance with the newly configured assigning authority. Ensure that all errors are resolved before implementing overlapping identifiers in a production environment.
    Tip:

    You can use the Validate button to check for errors without changing the selected Keyword Type.

  6. When validation has completed successfully, click Yes to confirm the selected assigning authority. The Requires Assigning Authority option is automatically selected, and the chart data field is now expected to include an assigning authority for all HL7 processing.
  7. Click Save to save your changes to the chart data field.
