When a database is upgraded, all default segments that were originally assigned to a system Message Template are reassigned. System Message Templates are those marked with an X in the HL7 Message Template Configuration dialog box.
For example, if all message segments except for an MSH segment were removed from the default ADT^A03 Message Template in an earlier database version, all of the message segments that had been removed are added back to the ADT^A03 Message Template after the upgrade.
To customize a Message Template, copy the Message Template, configure that copy, and assign the copied Message Template to any import or export processes as necessary. Copied Message Templates are not updated during a database upgrade.
