Filtering tells the HL7 Listener to process only messages whose values match those configured for fields in an HL7 message template.

Optionally, you can use a translation table to translate HL7 values before they are used to filter messages, as described under Translation Tables. Translation tables translate values from HL7 messages into values that OnBase can use for Keyword Values and text filtering. When used for filtering, translation tables translate the HL7 values to the values you are filtering on. Translation tables are especially helpful if multiple fields are set up to filter on the same set of values. If the values expected in HL7 messages change, you only have to update the HL7 values in the translation table rather than the filter text in each message template.

You can also filter messages by sending facility or sending application at the import process level. For more information, see Import Processes.

Note:

You cannot filter on a field that is mapped to a Keyword Type in the same message template.

To configure a filter field:

  1. Select Medical | HL7 | Message Template. The HL7 Message Template Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. From HL7 Message Template Configuration, select a message template and click Segments. The HL7 Segments Assigned dialog box is displayed.
  3. From the Selected Segments list, select a segment and click Fields.
  4. Select the field to filter on and click Settings. The HL7 Field Settings dialog box is displayed.
  5. From the Keyword Type drop-down list, select Null Keyword Type.
  6. Select User Defined (null) from the Predefined drop-down list.
  7. Type the text values to filter by in the User Defined field; you can enter up to 100 characters. Do not use a Keyword Value.
To filter by multiple values, separate each value with a semicolon.
  8. Select Use text value for field filtering.
    • When field filtering is enabled and the HL7 message is assigned to an HL7 import process (message action), the import process runs only for messages where this field contains one of the values specified in the previous step.

    • For example, if you specify ER;OP;CU for the Admit Source field, only messages with an Admit Source of ER, OP, or CU will be processed. If a message contains none of these Admit Source values, it will be ignored.

  9. Confirm the remaining settings are correct.
  10. Click Save.
    Note:

Once you change the message template configuration from the default, OnBase automatically saves the change. If you need to undo any changes, you must undo it manually.
