You may want to copy a message template for several reasons. For example, different sending applications may populate message fields differently, requiring one message template per sending application. You may also need to copy a message template in order to customize it (for example, by adding or removing specific segments).

To copy a message template:

  1. Select Medical | HL7 | Message Template. The HL7 Message Template Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. Select the message template you want to copy.
  3. Click Copy. The HL7 New Name for Message dialog box is displayed.
  4. Enter a name for the copied message template and click Save. The copied message template is available in HL7 Message Template Configuration.
  5. To change the message type, click Settings. The HL7 Message Settings dialog box is displayed.
  6. Update the message type in the fields provided for its component parts. Enter the message code in the first field, and the event type in the second field.
    CAUTION: HL7 is an established standard. Before changing the message type, ensure you understand the consequences of using a message type outside of those specified in the HL7 specification.
  7. If necessary, select the appropriate processing option. The Production, Debug, and Test processing options control the Processing ID value that is sent in the MSH.11 field.
  8. Click Save.
