You can copy an existing HL7 segment without immediately adding it to any message templates. You might use this approach when configuring repeating segments with a Set ID filter. This method of copying a segment does not modify the message template you are copying the segment from.

To copy a segment:

  1. Select Medical | HL7 | Message Template. The HL7 Message Template Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. Select a message template and click Segments. The HL7 Segments Assigned dialog box is displayed.
  3. Click New Segment. The HL7 Segment Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  4. Select the segment you want to copy.
  5. Click Copy.
  6. Enter a name for the copied segment and click Save. The segment is available from HL7 Segment Configuration.
  7. Select the copied segment and click Settings. The HL7 Segment Settings dialog box is displayed.
  8. Enter the Segment ID.
  9. If the segment will be a repeating segment in a message template, specify the Set ID for this copy of the segment.

    • Only enter a non-zero value if you are certain incoming messages will always have non-zero values for the Set ID field in this segment.

  10. Select Enable to repeat if either of the following is true:

    • You are using an HL7 import process to store values occurring in each instance of a repeating segment. For example, the Allergy Processor must store each allergy specified in repeating AL1 segments.

    • The GI Capture and Reporting module is using this template to send messages, and the selected segment must be allowed to repeat. See the GI Capture and Reporting documentation for more information.

  11. Click Save.
