In some cases, you may need to build a custom segment using a custom set of fields. For example, perhaps a sending application provides additional information in a custom segment, and the HL7 Listener needs the ability to parse this information.
If you need to create a segment based on an existing segment, it is recommended to copy the existing segment and then customize the copy as needed. See Copying Segments.
To create a new segment:

Select a message template and click Segments. The HL7 Segments Assigned dialog box is displayed.

Click New Segment. The HL7
Segment Configuration dialog box is displayed.

Click Fields. The HL7 Segment Fields dialog box is displayed.

Click Create. The HL7 Field Settings dialog box is displayed.
