After you have created a translation table, you can assign it to a field in a message template. OnBase can translate values for a field when receiving, sending, and filtering messages.

Note:

A value in the Message Type field (MSH.9) cannot be translated.

To assign a translation table to a message field:

  1. In OnBase Configuration, select Medical | HL7 | Message Template.
  2. Select a message template and click Segments.
  3. Select a segment and click Fields.
  4. Select the appropriate field and click Settings.
  5. If this field is being used to populate a chart field, select the chart field from the Chart Field Override drop-down list. You must select the chart field override to ensure that the chart is associated with the translated value.
  6. From Translation Table, select the translation table you created for the field.
  7. Select whether you want the translation table to be used for receiving, sending, or filtering messages. You can select a combination of these options.
    CAUTION:

    Do not select both Receiving and Sending for a single field if the translation table contains duplicate values for either the HL7 value or the OnBase value. Translation tables that map multiple OnBase values to the same HL7 value should be used only for sending messages; tables that map multiple HL7 values to the same OnBase value should be used only for receiving messages.

    Setting

    Description

    Receiving

    The HL7 value in the inbound message is translated to the mapped OnBase value. The OnBase value is then used to populate the Keyword or E-Form field assigned to the HL7 field.

    Sending

    The value from the trigger document is translated to the mapped HL7 value. The HL7 value is then used in the outbound message.

    Filtering

    The HL7 value in the inbound message is translated before it is compared against the filter values configured for the field. If documents should be indexed with the translated value, then the Receiving option must also be selected. Otherwise, documents are indexed with the untranslated values from the HL7 messages.

    Filtering does not apply to outbound messages. For information about configuring filtering, see Configuring HL7 Filter Fields.
  8. Click Save.
