If the HL7 message specifies multiple MRNs using a repeating field, the HL7 Listener uses the following conditions to determine the correct MRN for the chart:

  1. Does the HL7 message template use a chart field override for the MRN?

    • Chart field overrides are configured under Medical | HL7 | Message Templates in OnBase Configuration.

  2. Does the MRN chart data field have a filter configured?

    • Chart data field filters are configured under Medical | Charts | Data Fields in OnBase Configuration.

Tip:

To ensure the correct MRN is assigned to a chart, configure a filter on the MRN's chart data field. Filters allow the Medical Records Chart processor to determine the appropriate MRN when the HL7 field repeats. However, filters are not applied if the MRN field is configured as a chart field override in the HL7 message template.
