Because the Wrap long text lines setting inserts line breaks into transcriptions, transcriptions may be formatted in unexpected ways when physicians edit them under the Medical Records Transcription Interface license. For example, a physician's insertion might push a line break to the middle of the next line.

On systems licensed for the Medical Records Transcription Interface, the Advanced Document Import message action can create two renditions of text transcriptions: a raw text report format rendition and a standard text report format rendition. The raw text rendition retains all whitespace characters, including spaces, tabs, form feeds, and carriage returns. When physicians modify and save a raw text rendition in the transcription editor, the changes are reflected in the standard text rendition.

For the Advanced Document Import message action to create raw text renditions, the following requirements must be met:

  • The Preserve Text Formatting when Editing Transcription setting must be enabled. This setting is available on the Transcription Settings tab in Medical System Settings.

  • The transcription Document Type must be configured to allow multiple renditions.

Note:

The Advanced Document Import message action is the only HL7 message action that can create raw text report format renditions of text transcriptions.
