To configure merging, you must map chart data fields to HL7 fields. In OnBase, the following chart data fields are used for merging:

  • Merge Chart ID #

  • Merge Medical Record #

  • Merge MPI Number

These fields must be mapped both to the correct HL7 fields and also to their respective Keyword Types. For example, if a Keyword Type is mapped to the Chart ID # field, the same Keyword Type must also be mapped to the Merge Chart ID # field.

  1. Select Medical | Charts | Data Fields in OnBase Configuration.
  2. Select one of the Merge data fields.
  3. Click Settings to display Chart Data Field Settings.
  4. In HL7 Reference Field, enter the field in the merge message that carries the merge data.
    In the example above, the merge data is on the MRG segment in the first component of the third field (3.1). Your line-of-business application would normally provide this information.
  5. From the Key Value drop-down, select the Keyword Type that is mapped to the corresponding chart data field in the PID segment.
    For example, if you are merging chart IDs, ensure the chart ID Keyword Type is mapped to both the Chart ID # and the Merge Chart ID # data fields.
  6. Click Save.
