Gender values are a piece of patient record data consisting of an HL7 code and a displayed name. OnBase medical records systems have several Gender Types available by default, and additional types can be created or modified as needed.
Configure a Gender Type for each gender that can be associated with a patient record in OnBase to ensure that any received HL7 gender codes can be displayed as an easily readable name on documents and user interfaces.
HL7 gender codes found in incoming messages which are not already configured as a Gender Type can still be received. However, the HL7 code value cannot be the same as the display name for an existing Gender Type. For example, an HL7 message containing a gender code value of Female will be rejected, because Female is the default display name associated with the HL7 code F.
