To configure a Document Type for medical records, assign it to a Document Type Group that has the Contains Medical Record Document Types setting enabled.

Once a Document Type is assigned to a medical record Document Type Group, it cannot be reassigned to a non-medical Document Type Group. It can be reassigned to another medical record Document Type Group, if necessary.

Note:

When you create or designate a new medical record Document Type, it may automatically be designated for use with chart documents. This behavior is based on the Assign New Medical Document Types to Chart Context setting under Medical | Medical System Settings. Clear this setting if new medical record Document Types should not be automatically designated for charts.

To create a medical record Document Type:

  1. In OnBase Configuration, select Document | Document Types.
  2. Add or select the Document Type you want to configure for medical record documents.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Select a medical record Document Type Group from the Document Type Group drop-down.
  5. Click Save.

If the Assign New Medical Document Types to Chart Context medical system setting is enabled, the following warning is displayed:

You have selected a Medical Record Document Type Group. If you continue saving, this Document Type will be permanently designated as a chart-level Document Type. This designation cannot be changed or removed.
To change the default designation for new Medical Record Document Types, or for additional information, please contact your first line of support or consult the HL7 Module Reference Guide.
Do you want to continue saving this configuration?
  6. If this warning is displayed, consider whether you want to use the Document Type to store chart documents.
    • Click Yes to use the Document Type for chart documents. To suppress this warning for the remainder of your login session, select Do not show this warning again until Configuration is re-launched before you click Yes.

    • Click No if the Document Type should not be used for chart documents. Cancel out of the Document Type settings dialog box, and disable the Assign New Medical Document Types to Chart Context setting under Medical | Medical System Settings. See Medical System Settings for more information.
