Each document in a medical record Document Type should resolve to a single patient record in OnBase. OnBase attempts to associate documents with a patient using the following chart data fields:

Master Patient Index (MPI)
Medical Record Number (MRN)—If your system allows different patients to have the same MRN, see Overlapping Identifiers and Assigning Authorities.

If a document is imported with values for these fields, OnBase attempts to attach the document to a patient record. If documents should not be attached to patients or charts, see Preventing Attachment to Patients or Charts.

To ensure medical record documents can be attached to patient records:

Map Keyword Types to the MPI and MRN chart data fields. See Chart Data Field Configuration for more information.
Assign these Keyword Types to all medical record Document Types to allow for attachment to patient records.

Note:
Keyword Types can only be mapped to a single data field. Attempting to map a Keyword Type to multiple data fields will prevent AFKS expansion from being possible.
