You can configure the HL7 Listener to create email alerts for an administrator whenever OnBase receives an HL7 message that it cannot process. These email alerts are queued by the HL7 Listener and sent using the Hyland Distribution Service.

Email alerts contain the following information:

This is an auto-generated message from OnBase Client.

The HL7 Listener failed to process an HL7 message while executing these HL7 import processors:

Processor: <Message Action> processor, "<Process Name>" (<Process Number>)

Result: <Type of failure>

Description: <Failure description>

<MSH Segment>

Note:

Email alerts contain the MSH segment of the HL7 message; no other segments are included. This practice helps the administrator identify which HL7 message failed while protecting confidential patient data that the message may contain.

The following is a sample email message for a failed E-Form import process:

To enable email alerts, complete the following steps:

  1. Select Medical | HL7 | Settings. The HL7 Settings dialog box is displayed.
  2. Select the HL7 administrator's user account from the Report errors to drop-down under HL7 Listener.
    Tip:

    To have the Hyland Distribution Service send reports to a global distribution list, create a new OnBase user, and make the user's email match the distribution list name as it is configured on the SMTP server. Select the new user from the Report errors to drop-down to have errors sent to the distribution list.

  3. Click Save.
