The HL7 Listener error report (hl7errors.txt) logs message errors encountered while the HL7 Listener is running. The report is generated when the HL7 Listener receives a message that is not configured properly or that cannot be processed. The generated report logs the error encountered, along with the message date, timestamp, thread ID, sender, and message control ID. If the HL7 Listener did not understand the message, then the entire message also is logged.
The following are sample error messages from the HL7 Listener error report:
The error report may contain the entire contents of HL7 messages, which can include confidential patient data. Ensure access to the HL7 Listener error report is restricted to protect the confidentiality of patient information.
By default, this report resides at the root of the C drive on the server running the HL7 Listener. If the Client running the Listener has the -HL7ERRORFILE="pathname" Command Line Switch applied, then the report file is created in the specified location.
This log file is never truncated by OnBase. It must be maintained manually to prevent it from growing too large. Clear the log of old messages on a regular basis, taking care to preserve messages that still need to be resolved.
