Forwarding connections transmit data from a source system to a receiving system by passing outbound TCP traffic through the local message engine to the remote message engine, which then relays the traffic to the receiving system on its local network.

Forwarding connections are created when a Message Engine instance detects traffic on the port it is configured to listen to for local TCP traffic. When local traffic is detected, the Message Engine establishes a secure connection over the Internet with the remote Message Engine configured as the local instance's destination endpoint. TCP traffic is then forwarded along this connection to the destination and on to the receiving system.
