As an alternative to manually creating coded value sets and adding coded values one at a time, you can use the IHE Coded Value Importer to create new sets and populate existing sets with coded values imported from an XML file.

Note:

Contact your first line of service for information on generating and formatting coded value import files.

To import coded values from an XML import file:

  1. In the Configuration module, select Medical | IHE | Coded Value Sets. The IHE Coded Value Set Configuration dialog box is displayed.
  2. Click the Import button. The IHE Coded Value Importer dialog box is displayed.
  3. Click the Import File button and browse to the XML import file.
  4. When a valid import file has been selected, the importable Code Types contained within it are listed in the IHE Coded Value Importer dialog box.
  5. For each listed Code Type found in the file, you must decide which existing or new set to import it into, or if it should be imported at all. Use the drop-down list in the Coded Value Set column to select one of the following:
    • Select Do Not Import to ignore the found Code Type.

    • Select Create New Coded Value Set Using Code Type Name to import the found Code Type as a new coded value set. The name listed in the Code Type column is used as the name of the new set. You can edit the name in the Code Type column if you don't want to use the name found in the import file.

    • Select an existing coded value set to import the values of the found Code Type into that set.

  6. Click OK to import the found Code Types as specified.
