The Components tab allows you to view and manage component attributes and the child rules applied to them.
Message attributes with an encoding type of Classification or External Identifier are used for multifaceted pieces of data, and they are made up of component attributes that hold individual parts of the data.
The rules applied to these components are known as child rules, and the rule applied to the main attribute is known as the parent rule. Each child rule inherits a different part of the data mapped to the main attribute by the parent rule and maps that part to its respective component.
For example, when you apply a <Complex> rule to the DocumentEntry.classCode attribute for Source processing, you select a coded value set on the General tab to map to the message attribute. On the Components tab, there is an attribute named DocumentEntry.classCode.Slot, a component of the DocumentEntry.classCode attribute. This component attribute has a default child rule applied to it whose type is Coding Scheme. The coding scheme is needed by the receiving system to correctly identify the coded value, which itself is mapped to the component attribute DocumentEntry.classCode.nodeRepresentation by a Code child rule. In this way component attributes work together to represent a complex piece of data such as a coded value set.
In the Components tab, the Attribute Name and Encoding Type of all available components are displayed, as well as the Rule Type and Cardinality applied to each, and whether the child rules are System Generated or Disabled. Select a component and click Settings to configure the child rule applied to it. The available component attributes and applicable child rules are specific to each message attribute.
