The Integration for DocuSign module allows users to upload documents to DocuSign for signing. Supported document file formats that can be uploaded to DocuSign include PDF, Image Rendered PDF, image, text, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint documents.

Because DocuSign returns all signed documents as PDF renditions or revisions, Document Types used with DocuSign must be configured appropriately, depending on how you would like the signed documents stored. The uploading requirements and how signed documents are stored differ based on whether the Document Type is configured to allow renditions and/or revisions.

Note:

A Document Type can only be configured to allow revisions if you are licensed for EDM Services. For more information on revisions, see the EDM Services module reference guide or help file.

The table below describes different Document Type configurations, the uploading requirements based on each configuration, and how the signed document is stored based on each configuration.

Document Type Configuration

Requirements / Storage

Non-revisable and does not allow renditions

The document being uploaded to DocuSign must be a PDF. When the document is returned, the original document is replaced with the signed document.

CAUTION:

If a non-PDF document is uploaded and signed in this scenario, it cannot be returned to OnBase once, since the Document Type does not allow revisions or renditions. For example, if a user uploads an image document from a non-revisable document that doesn't allow revisions, the document cannot be returned to the system after it is signed.

Non-revisable and allows renditions

The document being uploaded to DocuSign can be any supported file format.

Uploading a PDF document: When the document is returned, the original document is replaced with the signed document.

Uploading a non-PDF document: When the document is returned, it is stored as a PDF rendition of the original document. If a PDF rendition of the document existed prior to upload, that rendition is replaced with the signed document.

Note:

When opening a document with a signed PDF rendition, the rendition that is displayed may depend on system configuration (i.e., the signed PDF rendition may not be displayed when opening the document). For more information on rendition display behavior, see the section on Global Client Settings in the System Administration module reference guide or help file.

Revisable

The document being uploaded to DocuSign can be any supported file format. When the document is returned, it becomes a revision of the original document.

Note:

Rendition configuration does not affect the behavior in this scenario, since the signed document is always returned as a revision.
